First Rocket Boomer WL 3 to Hong Kong
The first of the next generation Rocket Boomer WL 3 C drill rigs have been ordered by international contractor Nishimatsu for the West Rail Project in Hong Kong. Nishimatsu have the contract for the 5.5 km of drill and blast tunnelling section known as contract number KCRC 350 in joint venture with French contractor, Dragages Bouygues.

has a budget of $US8 billion and is expected be completed by 2003. This drill and blast contract calls for a total of 700,000 cubic metres of rock to be excavated for underground
rail tunnel and stations.
The timeframe for the tunnelling operation was a critical factor when deciding on the equipment for this project. Nishimatsu’s decision to purchase these new drill rigs from
Atlas Copco was based on the high level of technology giving increased drilling performance, ensuring fast project completion.
Mr. N Maruyama Project Director, Nishimatsu stated “We wanted the best in terms of technology and product support. Atlas Copco were the first choice. ”
The Rocket Boomer L 3 series have a new computer based intelligence level that ensures increased performance and accuracy when drilling.
These machines will include full drilling automation with Advanced Boom Control –Total, the latest in intelligent drilling systems that includes automatic positioning of the boom and feed with electronic parallel holding and automatic drilling.
The Rocket Boomer WL 3 C features a wide console for drilling tunnels for a width of up to 17.3m. A fully air-conditioned cabin with a 1.1metre cabin lift for increased visibility during drilling and the powerful COP 1838 rock drill with the unique double dampening system.
This order includes a full service and parts contract with Atlas Copco service personnel based on-site. Atlas Copco Rock Drills will supply all drill steels.
The order is for two Rocket Boomer WL 3 C drill rigs, the first will be delivered in mid-December 1999 while the second will be delivered in February 2000.
